Tips on How to Use a Crown Molding Angle Chart and More

Crown moldings add spice to your home, but installing them the wrong way can turn it into an eyesore instead of an eye-pleaser. Believe me, the first time I tried installing crown molding on my own, I had to do a lot of damage control because of so many things. I couldn’t cut them accurately, and somehow, I kept getting confused with the angles. All these were not enough to kill my spirit though, and my love for DIY has helped me master the craft and share what I know with other DIY enthusiasts like you.
Here are a few tips that could help you install crown molding perfectly:
·         Use a crown molding angle chart. The angles are always critical in the proper installation of crown moldings. A crown molding angle chart will be the best reference for you to figure out how to set your miter angle and face bevel before cutting your molding, leaving you with pieces that fit perfectly with each other and to the wall.
·         Start at the front of the room. No matter how perfectly you want things to fit, you would always have seams that show where separate moldings meet. Starting at the front of the room will mean using the longest part of the molding first and leaving the seams towards the back end of the room, where it would be barely noticeable by people walking into the room. As much as possible, center seams in the middle of a stud.
·         Use a stud finder. A stud finder is definitely a useful tool not only in installing crown molding but also in all other kinds of DIY projects that involves your wall. A stud finder helps you find the framing studs used around rooms once they have been covered by walling surfaces.

These great tips will definitely help you DIY your way around a more inspiring home. To make crown molding projects easier, find out more about other resources you could use like the Cut N Crown system and other similar tools.

  • Measurements will be taken with the angle finder supplied in the Cut N Crown kit.
  • Be extremely accurate when marking your pieces. It will save you from wasting molding pieces due to human error.
  • The next step is using the jigs, included in the kit, to cut your molding at the perfect angle.
  • It is highly recommended that you use a nail gun during installation to avoid splintering. Try to hit a stud when possible for the most secure hold.
  •  If you have to use more than one piece of molding on the length of the wall, don’t cut them in a straight line. Make beveled cuts to make the seams appear neater.

Crown Molding For The Living Room

Bored of the regular look of a room and want to bring about some changes? Try crown molding. This will transform your space and make it look ornate. Crown molding is a very popular way to change the look of your house and people generally use crown moldings on ceilings for an added effect. The best thing about installing a ceiling crown molding is that regardless which type of ceiling mold you choose, you can apply the same set of instructions.

Follow these simple steps to change the look and feel of your house.

1. To get the right angles for your crown molding, begin by measuring the corners of the room with the help of a combination square. Hold it horizontally against the wall and the 90 degree section should correspond with the wall. If the 2 sides are congruous, you have a square corner. If the sides do not touch the square perfectly, then it is less than 90 degrees. If the walls are unevenly touching the square then corner is more than 90 degrees. With the help of the square, get the angle estimation to as close as possible and note that down for cutting the molds accurately.

2. Use tape measure to get the distance of the wall.

3. Adjust the miter saw angle accordingly and set it for cutting the final molding.

4. Leave the bottom of the molding on the table horizontally and position the molding piece on miter saw. Check the molding should be at the same angle on the saw as it would be on the ceiling. Once in place, turn on the miter saw and let it begin its work.

5. Make a pencil mark on the bottom of the molding after measuring the length of the crown mold against the wall where you want to install it.

6. Now make adjustments to the miter saws angle towards the right exactly half of the angle of the corner of the wall where you will place the molding. Prop up the molding at the right angle against the fence and the table, align the blade with the pencil mark and begin cutting the molding. The distance is widest on the top of the molding and narrow at the bottom which means that the cut is right.

7. Start the position of the molding between the walls and the ceiling for installation. Nail them into the joists and not just into the dry wall for proper position.

8. Repeat the same set of steps against all the walls in the room.

After completing these simple steps, stand back and enjoy the great work of crown moldings on your ceiling that will change the way your house looks henceforth. Don’t be petrified by the idea of doing this work all across the house once you have done it with a single room in your house. The process remains the same and the transformation is endless. So what are you waiting for? Get started on your next room now, you did a pretty good job with the living room!

Cut N Crown Jigs: Why You Need Them

Why Crown Molding

Crown molding, in all essence, add beauty to any room. Be it a master bedroom or a home office. The installation of crown molding ensures elegance to any room. But while it is mostly for the beautification of your home space, the process of installing it requires a bit of knowledge with carpentry and tools. Thankfully, a company like cutncrown.com has found a way to simplify the process to cater to the needs of those who are fond of do it yourself home improvement ideas.

What are Jigs?

Crown molding jigs are essential tools to be able to do the desired crown molding. There are basically three types of jigs that can be found and bought from cutncrown.com, 38°, 45° and 52°. These jigs will correspond to the three types of spring angles that will be used in cutting the crown moldings. However, the angle for the crown moldings will depend on the crown angle as well as the wall angle, rooms with low ceilings will definitely look better with crown moldings tilting upwards as this will make the room look higher, and vice versa, rooms with low ceilings will work well with crown moldings that are tilted downwards.

How to use the Jig

To ensure the perfection of the crown molding you are trying to create, best use an efficient jig. Once you have that, make sure that the jig you are using is sitting perfectly fit against the saw guide. You also have to make sure that the crown molding is held snug against the jig. This will lessen errors while doing your cuts. The jigs, as mentioned before, are one of the most essential tools any person would need in creating the crown molds. Cutncrown.com has specialized the jigs that they sell to be able to ensure that there are fewer errors. Aside from that, other tools being sold by the company have also been tweaked in a way that when used together, it will ensure a perfect result almost every time.

Where to find Cut N Crown Jigs

Once you are able to get a hold of the best crown molding jig by Cut N Crown, you can now proceed to creating crown molding for your home. You can learn about the process as well in the company's website. The process they have formulated will also work very well with their tools. 2013 AWFS Fair In Las Vegas, Woodworkings Best!

We recently finished up a woodworking trade show in Las Vegas called the AWFS Fair. It was a great show for us as we were able to spend five days showing serious woodworkers and do it yourself types alike how to simplify their life and cut crown molding the easiest way possible. We demonstrated our Cut-N-Crown jig hundreds of times to thousands of people and every time had a new gratification as the crowds loved our simple technique! Another great part to the show was being able to walk around and see some of the other great products out on the market. One of our personal favorites is the Grr-Ripper table saw push block by Micro Jig. We value safety in our shops and always are on the look out for the best safety equipment on the market. Micro Jig continuously provides just that. Of course it is one thing to have great products, but a whole other to be great people! The man that invented the micro jig products and his family run a class act organization and we recommend anyone heading to a woodworking trade show to stop by thier booth and introduce yourself to them. They always seem to have the time to talk woodworking, their product or whatever the subject may be. Always a pleasure to run into them! Here is a bit more about their table saw jig as seen on their youtube video: Of course if you want more information on their product, visit their website http://microjig.com
